Current Projects

We are attempting to integrate GIS technology in many different departments at the New England Aquarium; including research, conservation, rescue & rehabilitation, and education. The projects to the left are a current sample of past and present projects, we intend to expand this site as we integrate GIS into more studies.

Take a look at some of the work we are doing with right whales, Satellite Tagging and Remote Sensing Oceanographic Variables.


A 3-D representation of the sightings per unit effort of right whales in the Gulf of Maine.  The areas where the bars are highest is where we saw the most whales per survey effort, boat and aerial surveys.
Right whale researchers on the RV Galatea, they are logging the ships’ position along with the photos they took of right whales during the day.
